ISO 14001 Corporate Certification
We have been committed to the environment since the development of our Environment Policy in 1998, and in November 2005 Sonae Sierra's Environmental Management System (EMS) was certified by the ISO 14001 standard. This certification guaranteed our place as an international industry leader and the first property development, investment and management company to obtain such a certification across its entire business.
OHSAS 18001 certification
Sonae Sierra's safety and health (S&H) culture began to be built with the Personæ project which was implemented between 2004 and 2008, and helped us to establish the pillars for our S&H Management System. In 2004, we approved our Safety & Health Policy, recognising the importance that risks towards people and our assets should be minimised, as well as to achieve excellent levels of safety and health. The S&H Management System (SHMS) was certified by the OHSAS 18001:2007 standard in 2008, making us the first company in our industry in Europe to attain such certification.
During 2010, we started work integrating both these management systems (SHMS and EMS) and in the beginning of 2011 we rolled out the Safety, Health and Environmental System (SHEMS) to the entire organization. Currently Sonae Sierra has a unique management system that is certified by both ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001, covering all the company's business areas.
